Introduction to Regional Anaesthesia

This one day practical course is aimed at Stage 1 Anaesthetic Trainees and Trust Doctors who are interested to learn skills in Regional Anaesthesia.

The course is particularly complementary for Core Trainees who are working towards the Primary FRCA exam as well as the core skills required to gain experience in Regional Anaesthesia as outlined in the RCOA curriculum.

The course is also matched to the Basic Level Curriculum and incorporates practical workshops. Topics include:

  • Consent for Regional Anaesthesia including risks and benefits.
  • - Ultrasound physics and operating the machine.
  • - Peripheral nerve stimulators and other equipment.
  • - Needling technique.
  • - Sonoanatomy of commonly performed basic blocks.
