North East Region Difficult Airway Society (NERDS)

Course aims:

  • To allow delegates to learn, refresh or update skills in managing the difficult airway
  •  To provide practical hands-on experience in common difficult airway techniques
  •  To discuss potential approaches to challenging airway cases

A programme of lectures and workshops covering:

  •                      Imaging of airway including use of USS in airway management and CT interpretation
  •                      Surgeon’s perspective on the difficult airway
  •                     Oral & nasal flexible bronchoscopic intubation
  •                     Videolaryngoscopy and VL assisted bronchoscopic intubation
  •                      Front of Neck Access (surgical cricothyroidotomy)
  •                      Shared airway techniques including use of jet ventilation, high flow nasal oxygen, nasendoscopy
  •                      Tracheostomy trouble-shooting
  •                      Simulation scenarios
  •                      Decision-making and human factors considerations
  •                      Case based discussions
